Lounging
So, these trousers. What do you call them? You know, the ones with the whole 'sport luxe' (agh I hate that word) vibe. I really really can't decide about them. I love how they look on other people, and love how those people dress them up or down, but on me I only see some kind of sweatpant / pyjama hybrid that does absolutely beyond nothing to enhance the appearance of my derriere.
And I keep trying. I've made this pattern - Papercut Patterns Anima Pant - in all its variations now and still when I wear them out of the house, I feel like I've forgotten to get dressed and everyone is looking at me thinking 'She REALLY needs to make more effort'. So they (the trousers not the people) get relegated to lounging around the house in and / or sleeping in if I'm too lazy to get changed into different PJs ... TMI? Sorry.
Maybe it's the fabric. All three of my versions have been made with cheaper knits, which although they have some weight to them and don't bag out don't look great and don't really stand up to lots of wear and washing. Perhaps I need to try them in a woven, but then I'd have to make all sorts of pattern adjustments which I haven't had to do with the knits - as the latter are so much more forgiving due to the stretch. I'm not convinced the style and its limited potential for suiting me warrant that amount of effort. It's such a shame though, as I love this pattern and I love the look. Just not on me. Boo.
But I do love the pattern on this fabric (poly jersey (which is bobbling pretty badly) from Mood), I do love how they go so well with this top, and on this third iteration I've finally managed a half decent looking waistband and they do get worn A LOT. And everyone needs items for lounging and perhaps that is enough to make them a success anyway.
See you soon x
ps: I've just noticed I appear to have a hand on my butt and some kind of letter box going on in other unmentionable areas. Yes, these will definitely remain in the realm of lounging.
